Pure gold
Investment gold: coins, bars and biscuits. Too soft for everyday jewellery, which is why sarafa shops quote it as the benchmark rather than sell it as ornaments.

We do not have verified local quotes for these cities right now, so each city shows the Karachi benchmark. Pakistani city boards follow Karachi; local shops typically quote Rs 100–500 above Karachi depending on making charges and local demand. We publish that as a range rather than inventing a per-city price.

The formula
tola_price_pkr = (lbma_usd_per_oz × usd_pkr × 11.6638 / 31.1035) + local_premium
One tola is 11.6638 grams and one troy ounce is 31.1035 grams, so dividing by 31.1035 and multiplying by 11.6638 converts the international per-ounce dollar price into a per-tola price. The local premium covers import cost, dealer margin and local demand in the Sarafa market, which is why the Pakistani board rate is never exactly the converted spot price.
Today that works out to (4,343.30 × 280.54 × 11.6638 / 31.1035) + 2,500 = Rs 459,426, posted on the board as Rs 459,400 — sarafa boards quote in round hundreds.
Lower karats are derived from the 24K benchmark by purity: 22K = ×0.9167, 21K = ×0.875, 18K = ×0.75.

Rs 459,400 per tola
Pakistan's jewellery standard. Almost all bridal and traditional sets are 916 hallmarked. Resale is easiest at this purity.
Rs 421,100 per tola
The Gulf standard, common in Dubai, Saudi Arabia and Qatar. Overseas Pakistanis often buy 875 abroad and resell in Pakistan.
Rs 402,000 per tola
Light and durable, used in modern, stone-set and daily-wear jewellery. Lower gold content means a lower resale value per gram.
Rs 344,600 per tola
On 9 August 2026, 24K gold is Rs 459,400 per tola and 22K gold is Rs 421,100 per tola on the Karachi Sarafa Bazaar board.
24K gold is Rs 39,387 per gram, and 10 grams cost Rs 393,868.
One tola is exactly 11.6638 grams. A troy ounce is 31.1035 grams, so one ounce is about 2.67 tolas.
tola_price_pkr = (lbma_usd_per_oz × usd_pkr × 11.6638 / 31.1035) + local_premium. The LBMA international spot price in dollars per ounce is converted to rupees per tola, then a local Sarafa market premium is added.
Karat measures purity. 24K is 99.9% gold, 22K is 91.6% (hallmark 916), 21K is 87.5% (875, the Gulf standard) and 18K is 75% (750). Prices are derived from the 24K rate using ×0.9167, ×0.875 and ×0.75.
They mostly do not. City boards follow the Karachi Sarafa benchmark, and local shops typically quote Rs 100–500 above Karachi depending on making charges and local demand. We publish that as a range rather than inventing a per-city price.
The tola price uses the open-market rate of Rs 280.54 per dollar, because that is what remittance and travel users actually transact at. The State Bank of Pakistan interbank rate is Rs 277.76 and is shown separately.
Because of the local premium: import costs, duties, dealer margins and local demand. The converted spot price is the floor, not the shop price.
The Karachi Sarafa board is posted during market hours on working days and is republished here with its exact timestamp in Pakistan Standard Time. Friday afternoons, Sundays and public holidays usually carry the previous board.
Usually slightly less. The board rate is the metal value at that purity. When buying back, a shop deducts a margin, and making charges paid at purchase are not recovered.
Often yes on the metal, because Gulf markets carry lower duties and thinner making charges, and 21K (875) is the local standard. Currency movement and the cost of carrying gold back can erase the difference.
They mirror the rates published by the All Pakistan Sarafa Gems and Jewellers Association for the Karachi market, benchmarked to LBMA spot and State Bank of Pakistan exchange rates. Always confirm with your local sarafa shop before transacting.
